Ed Koch travels to Rochester to fight against “enemies of reform.”
When former New York City Mayor Ed Koch called out the “enemies of reform” in Rochester on Thursday, it didn’t pack the punch it might have in other cities, because most legislators and their challengers here are on board.Support for Koch’s reform ideas may be plentiful among Democrats and Republicans in the Flower City, but it’s hardly a sure thing in intractable Albany.
Just less than a third of Democratic Assembly members have signed a pledge which commits lawmakers to support an independent process for drawing state Legislature districts, as well as budget and ethics reforms, one of which would require legislators to disclose outside income, and in the case of lawyers, their client base.
“Citizens, New Yorkers must take advantage of this special time in our state’s history and demand Reform. Join us, this is our year.”
